It cost a whopping 19million to organize the inauguration of the incumbent Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane who beat Wiper’s Nathif Jama to clinch the seat.

A detailed report submitted to Devolution’s Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri shows that the swearing-in ceremony cost Sh11.5 million while the 22 members Committee tasked with organizing the event spent  Sh8.4 million in expenses.

The money was supposedly spent on hiring media services, band services, provision of First Aid, event ushers, security and lodge services.

The committee, according to their report, also paid for invitation cards, event organizers, and branding of T-shirts for event ushers.

The Committee members, their Chair and three other individuals in the team reportedly spent Sh4,770, 000 on sitting allowances alone.A number of new Governors however rejected the high budgets for their inaugurations and opted to be frugal.

Writing the report alone cost Sh3.7 million.

In 2013, the defunct Transition Authority (TA) set a ceiling of Sh2 million per county on the swearing in ceremonies.
