Gor Mahia thumped Kariobangi Sharks 3-0 in a Kenyan Premier League Wednesday fixture stage at the Kisumu’s Moi Stadium to go 15 points clear at the top of the log standings with three matches to spare.

An own goal from defender Geoffrey Shiveka in the first half and two more goals from Kevin Omondi and Lawrence Juma in the second stanza sealed the 19th win in 21 matches for K’Ogalo as they maintained their unbeaten record.

Gor are now on 55 points, 15 clear of second placed Sofapaka, who have played three matches more. Mathematically speaking, Gor need five wins to lift the 2018 KPL title with several matches to spare.

The team flew to the lake side city of Kisumu early morning Wednesday for the rescheduled fixture.

They returned from Tanzania on Monday after beating Yanga SC 3-2 in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Head coach Dylan Kerr overhauled the squad that steamrolled Yanga, giving eight players, who didn’t start against the Tanzanian giants a starting berth against the Kariobangi-based side, and they didn’t disappoint.

After a low key opening exchanges between the two sides, Sharks found themselves trailing in the 25th minute after Shiveka’s effort to head the ball back to his keeper, Brian Bwire, ended up in the net.

Substitute Kevin Omondi, who came on for Ivorian Ephrem Guikan doubled the lead with his first piece of action, lobbing the ball over advancing Bwire for the second in the 77th minute.

Juma completed the rout with a fine finish in the 87th minute, powering home Ugandan Godffrey Walusimbi’s assist, which saw the defender storm forward in a magnificent solo transition from defense to attack.

The loss leaves Sharks 7th on the log, 21 points off Gor.

K’Ogalo flew back to Nairobi immediately after the game to start preparations for Saturday’s tie against Nakumatt at Machakos’ Kenyatta Stadium.

Sharks on the other hand will remain in Western Kenya for their next outing against Zoo of Kericho.
