Drawing an airplane is a fun way to learn about shapes and structure. Whether for school or just for fun, you can create a basic airplane design by following a few easy steps. Here is how to draw an airplane.
- Draw the Main Body
Start by sketching a long, slightly curved horizontal oval or tube shape. This is the airplane’s fuselage—the main body where passengers sit.
- Add the Nose and Tail
Round off the front of the fuselage to form the nose of the plane. At the back, draw a slightly pointed end. You can curve it up slightly to shape the tail.
- Draw the Wings
On each side of the body, draw two long, slanted rectangles for the wings. They should stick out from the middle of the fuselage and angle slightly backward. Make sure both wings are even.
- Add Tail Wings
At the back of the airplane, draw a small vertical fin on top of the tail and a smaller horizontal wing on each side. These are called the tail fin and stabilizers.
- Sketch the Windows
Draw a row of small square or oval windows along the top side of the plane. At the front, sketch two slightly larger windows for the cockpit.
- Add the Engines (Optional)
Depending on the type of plane, you can draw one or two oval-shaped engines beneath each wing. Place them near the center of each wing.
- Refine Your Drawing
Go over your lines to make them neater and bolder. Erase any extra or unwanted sketch lines. Add small details like doors or markings if you like.
- Color Your Airplane
Use grey, blue, white, or any bright colors to color the airplane. You can also shade the windows darker or color in a logo if you’re copying a real airline design.
