      • Simmer the Chutney
      • Serve the Tomato Chutney

      Gather the Ingredients

Start by collecting the ingredients needed to prepare the chutney.

    • 4–5 ripe Tomato, chopped
    • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • Salt to taste
    • 1 teaspoon chili flakes or fresh chili (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice

Having the ingredients ready before cooking helps make the process smooth and efficient.

    1. Heat the Oil

Place a frying pan or saucepan on the stove over medium heat.

    • Add the cooking oil to the pan
    • Allow the oil to heat for about a minute
    • Make sure the oil spreads evenly across the pan

Properly heated oil helps the ingredients cook evenly and release their flavors.

    1. Cook the Onions and Garlic

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the heated oil.

    • Stir the mixture continuously to prevent burning
    • Cook until the onions become soft and slightly golden
    • The garlic should release a fragrant aroma

This step builds the base flavor of the chutney.

    1. Add the Tomatoes

Once the onions and garlic are ready, add the chopped Tomato to the pan.

    • Stir the tomatoes well with the onion mixture
    • Allow them to cook until they soften and begin to break down
    • Continue stirring occasionally

As the tomatoes cook, they release juices that form the main sauce of the chutney.

    1. Add Spices and Seasoning

After the tomatoes have softened, add the seasoning.

    • Add salt to taste
    • Stir in sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes
    • Add chili flakes or fresh chili for heat
    • Pour in vinegar or lemon juice for a tangy flavor

Mix everything thoroughly so the spices blend well with the tomatoes.

    1. Simmer the Chutney

Allow the chutney to simmer on low heat for several minutes.

    • Stir occasionally to prevent sticking
    • Cook until the mixture thickens into a sauce-like consistency
    • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary

The longer the chutney cooks, the richer and deeper the flavor becomes.

    1. Serve the Tomato Chutney

Once the chutney reaches the desired thickness, remove it from the heat.

    • Let it cool slightly before serving
    • Serve with bread, rice, chapati, or snacks
    • Store leftovers in a clean container in the refrigerator

Tomato chutney can be enjoyed immediately or kept for later use.
