    Working with tables in Microsoft Word is a great way to organize information clearly. Sometimes, you may need to divide one table into two separate tables for better formatting or presentation. This can be useful when creating reports, documents, or structured layouts. Learning how to split a table in Word helps you manage your content more effectively and improve document readability. With a few simple steps, you can split a table and adjust your layout as needed.

    1. Table of Contents

      Toggle
      • Place the Cursor in the Table
      • Go to the Table Tools Layout Tab
      • Select the Split Table Option
      • Adjust the New Tables
      • Save Your Document

      Place the Cursor in the Table

    Start by clicking inside the table where you want to split it.

    Position the cursor in the row that will become the first row of the new table.

    • Click inside the table
    • Choose the correct row
    • Ensure proper placement
    1. Go to the Table Tools Layout Tab

    Once your cursor is in the table, the Table Tools options will appear at the top of the screen.

    Click on the “Layout” tab to access table editing features.

    • Locate Table Tools
    • Click Layout tab
    • View available options
    1. Select the Split Table Option

    In the Layout tab, look for the “Split Table” option.

    Clicking this will divide the table into two at the selected point.

    • Find “Split Table”
    • Click to apply
    • Observe the split
    1. Adjust the New Tables

    After splitting, you can move or format the new tables as needed.

    This helps improve the structure of your document.

    • Reposition tables if needed
    • Adjust formatting
    • Add spacing between tables
    1. Save Your Document

    Once you are satisfied with the changes, save your document.

    This ensures your work is not lost.

    • Click save
    • Review final layout
    • Confirm changes
