Police are investigating an incident where a police officer shot and killed a man in an argument over a pool game in Kawangware, Nairobi.
The said assailant is attached to State House spokesman Hussein Mohamed.
Witnesses said he shot one Amos Lagat, 35 seven times in the argument. He was shot in the chest at close range. But the said officer later reported to Muthangari police station he had been attacked by three unknown people and was forced to shoot to the air as he escaped.
He claimed the attackers wanted to rob him of his gun, a claim that is under probe. The cop said he fractured his leg and later returned his gun to the station before being taken to hospital.
Witnesses told police the confrontation happened at a joint on Sunday March 23 evening where the deceased had apparently won a pool bet in the Amboseli area.
The said officer was playing pool and disagreed leading to the confrontation and shooting. He was rushed to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the shooting. Police said they are talking to several witnesses in the matter before taking further action.
The team will also talk to the said assailant adding if there is an element of lying from any side we will take further action.
Another officer argued if there was any form of cover up in the saga they will take further action irrespective of the individuals involved.
This followed complaints from the family and friends of the deceased that there was interference and attempts of cover up in the shooting.
The police said they were unable to talk to the said police officer as of Monday as he was said to be in a hospital bed.
There are claims of interference from what officials termed as above. Locals have also complained the said officer has been harassing them with impunity. Even some colleagues in the area feared him because of where he was attached to.
There was no immediate comment from Hussein as he was said to be in meetings.
Hussein was not present at the time of the incident.
