IEBC Commissioner, Dr Roselyn Akombe was on Friday night stopped from boarding a flight to the United States.

She was according to Citizen denied access into the flight as she could not make available her clearance from the Head of Public Service.

She couldn’t make it past the JKIA as security officers and the intelligence agents at the airport demanded that the commissioner produce an authorisation from the head of civil service, Joseph Kinyua.

The flight was to depart at 10PM but she didn’t make it into the flight as the immigration officials insisted on the commissioner being cleared by the office of the President before departure.

She boarded the flight and had to be removed from inside the flight then detained at the JKIA police station before the clearance was sent.

Akombe was recruited into the IEBC job from her Political Officer‘s job at the United Nations offices in New York. She was once reported to be angling to be the deputy chairman of the commissioner but Consolata-Nkatha Bucha Maina who was also from Australia was recruited instead of her.

In a tweet, the commission clarified that she was traveling to the US on official business and would be back on Sunday.

IEBC has now responded to the incident terming the allegations that she was escaping as untrue. The commission has clarified that Roselyne was going for official duties which they have not mentioned.
