Former Bomet Governor, Isaac Rutto has opened up about his backing Jubilee presidential candidate, Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.
The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader defected from the Raila Odinga led NASA camp but has denied joining the President’s party.
Speaking to the Nairobian, Rutto said: ”I have not defected; I am still the party leader of Chama Cha Mashinani. I was persuaded to support President Kenyatta’s re-election by the need to keep the community together.”
He also noted that about 60 per cent of the people that voted for him cast their vote in support of Kenyatta.
”Only 35 per cent agreed with me and voted for NASA. I did not want to continue disagreeing with the 60%,” he said.

On claims on whether he was threatened into supporting Kenyatta, he said: ”I heard some people saying that I was threatened but there is no such thing. No favours were offered.”
He also maintained that he did not concede defeat to Governor Joyce Laboso noting that ‘we must change of leadership once in a while.’
