A 70-year-old man died after a wall collapsed on him during the demolition of a house in Suna West, Migori County.

Police said the incident occurred on Monday evening at Bishop Oginda area as workers were demolishing an old semi-permanent house in preparation for new construction.

The team was in the process of bringing down the structure when one of the walls suddenly gave way and fell on the victim, identified as Joseph Wasonga.

Wasonga sustained serious internal injuries in the incident and was rushed to Lifecare Hospital in Migori for treatment. However, medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police officers from Ragana Police Post later visited both the scene and the hospital and confirmed the incident.

Authorities have since summoned the owner of the building and the contractor overseeing the demolition to record statements as part of ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

The body of the deceased was moved to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Elsewhere, three police officers who were reported missing on Monday have resurfaced safely in Merti, police confirmed on Tuesday.

The officers had gone missing while returning to their GSU sub-headquarter operation camp from the Kom-Durte mining site on March 9 at around 7 pm.

According to reports, the officers lost their way after encountering a herd of elephants.

Darkness prevented them from retracing their steps back to the road leading to the camp. They eventually found themselves along the Merti–Isiolo Road, where they boarded a public service vehicle that took them to Merti Police Station.

Upon arrival, the officers were provided with food and water. They sustained no visible injuries except minor soft tissue strains due to long-distance walking. Authorities have communicated with their command to facilitate their return to the base on 11th March.

The incident highlights the challenges law enforcement officers face in remote areas of Isiolo County and the importance of community support in search and rescue operations.

The area is among those under a special operation to address cases of cattle rustling that have affected development at large.
