A 73-year-old carpenter was attacked and lynched by a mob after he had fatally stabbed a fellow carpenter in an argument over Sh2,000 debt in Koitabut village, Nandi County.

The two carpenters, David Kiptoo Songok and Antony Sang had Saturday argued at their workplace over the money.

It was then that Sang, alias Andoli, 73 years and a carpenter at Kemeloi and Kapkemich centre picked up a knife and stabbed Songok in the chest.

Police said Songok, 58, a carpenter at Kibose Shopping centre, was rushed to a local dispensary where he died on arrival.

He had a deep stab wound in the back.

After the stabbing drama, the accused went to his home and told his relatives he had killed Songok and that he was heading to Koitabut Police Post to surrender himself.

He left his mobile phone and keys at home and went to the local police station about four kilometers away, police said.

However, on arrival at Sisia village along Mugen-Kapkemich road on his way to the police post, he was confronted by a mob and stoned to death.

Police responded to the scene and found his body lying in a pool of blood and partially burned.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy, police said.

Police discourage incidents of mob lynching and term them illegal.

The police want suspects be arrested and surrendered to authorities for processing.

In Kamasai sub-location, Nandi County, a man was found dead after suspected suicide.

The body of Peter Kimutai Cheruiyot, 33 was found dangling from a tree at the boundary of their land.

Police said he used a sisal rope that was found on his neck and both legs were soaked with blood.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations and autopsy.

In Mumbuni, Makueni County, one Stanley Mutinda Mutuku, 50 died by suicide by hanging himself on a tree using a sisal rope outside his house.

The incident was discovered by his neighbor, who was passing by.

The motive of the incident is not yet known.

The body is lying in a local mortuary following the Saturday incident.
