Mark Stone is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who serves as the captain and a right winger for the Vegas Golden Knights in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Born on May 13, 1992, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to parents Rob and Jackie Stone, he has established himself as one of the league’s most reliable two-way forwards known for his size, hockey IQ, defensive prowess, and clutch performances.
Siblings
Mark has one older brother, Michael Stone, a defenseman who enjoyed a lengthy NHL career, primarily with the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes among other teams.
The brothers grew up playing hockey together in Winnipeg and faced each other in competitive settings, including Western Hockey League (WHL) matchups and the 2010 Memorial Cup where Michael played for the Calgary Hitmen.
Career
Stone was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the sixth round, 178th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

He developed his game with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL, where he showcased strong offensive skills and leadership, earning multiple honors before turning professional.
He made his NHL debut with the Senators and gradually became a key contributor, often playing on the top line and demonstrating elite playmaking and defensive abilities.
In February 2019, the Senators traded Stone to the Vegas Golden Knights, a move that elevated his career.
He quickly adapted to his new team, and in January 2021, he was named the first captain in Golden Knights franchise history.
Under his leadership, the team achieved significant success, culminating in a Stanley Cup victory in 2023.

In junior hockey, Stone earned WHL East First All-Star Team selections in 2011 and 2012, the Brad Hornung Trophy as the WHL’s most sportsmanlike player in 2012, and CHL Sportsman of the Year honors the same year.
In the NHL, he was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2015 and participated in the 2022 NHL All-Star Game.
His ultimate team achievement came in 2023 when he captained the Vegas Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup championship, becoming the first player in the modern NHL era to lead a team to its first Cup title as captain.
On the international stage, he has represented Canada with distinction, earning World Championship MVP and All-Star Team honors in 2019.
