Martin Kaymer is a highly accomplished German professional golfer recognized as one of the most successful players from continental Europe in modern golf history.

Born on December 28, 1984, in Düsseldorf, West Germany, Kaymer grew up in the nearby town of Mettmann.

He initially excelled in football and gymnastics before focusing on golf, which he began playing around age 10 alongside his family.

Standing approximately 6 feet tall with a precise and methodical approach to the game, Kaymer turned professional in 2005 at the age of 20, holding a plus-5 handicap at the time.

He quickly rose through the ranks on the European Tour (now DP World Tour) and has competed on the PGA Tour, eventually joining the LIV Golf League.

    Siblings

Martin has one brother named Philip Kaymer.

The two brothers started playing golf together with their father, Horst, creating early family bonds on the course that carried into adulthood.

Philip has been actively involved in Martin’s golf career, often appearing alongside him at tournaments and even caddying for their father during pro-am events such as the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

On several occasions, the family has participated together in competitions, with Philip carrying the bag while Martin partnered with Horst.

    Career

Kaymer’s professional career took off rapidly after he turned pro in 2005. He earned his first European Tour card and was named Rookie of the Year in 2007.

His breakthrough came in 2010 when he captured his first major championship at the PGA Championship, defeating Bubba Watson in a playoff.

That same year, he also secured the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and other titles, leading to a strong run that saw him claim the world number one ranking for eight weeks in 2011.

Kaymer continued to deliver consistent performances, including a victory at the 2011 WGC-HSBC Champions.

In 2012, he added The Players Championship to his resume, often regarded as the fifth major.

His second major triumph arrived in 2014 at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, where he led wire-to-wire and won by eight strokes in dominant fashion, becoming the first German and only the second European player to win that title.

He has represented Europe in multiple Ryder Cups, contributing to memorable victories, including holing the decisive putt in the “Miracle of Medinah” in 2012.

After a period of form fluctuations, Kaymer joined the LIV Golf League, where he has continued competing while balancing family life.

Throughout his journey, he has demonstrated remarkable composure, especially after personal losses, and has amassed 11 DP World Tour wins along with additional victories worldwide.

    Accolades

Kaymer has won two major championships—the 2010 PGA Championship and the 2014 U.S. Open—along with 11 titles on the DP World Tour and three on the PGA Tour, including The Players Championship.

He spent time as the Official World Golf Ranking number one and accumulated 23 professional wins globally.

Kaymer earned the European Tour Rookie of the Year award in 2007 and has been a key member of successful Ryder Cup teams.

His wire-to-wire U.S. Open victory remains one of the most commanding major performances in recent decades.

Beyond competitive honors, Kaymer has been recognized for his sportsmanship and contributions to growing golf in Germany.
