Motorists using the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway have been advised to take alternative routes following heavy traffic experienced on the road Friday night.

According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the congestion began at around 8:30 p.m. between Naivasha and Kikopey. T

he situation was worsened by lane indiscipline, which caused a gridlock that spilled over into the night.

KeNHA said the heavy traffic was also due to a high number of vehicles heading to and from Gilgil for the National Youth Service (NYS) pass-out parade held yesterday.

“The Authority is working closely with traffic police to help ease the situation, and normal flow is expected to resume gradually through the morning,” KeNHA stated.

The agency urged motorists to maintain lane discipline and avoid overlapping, warning that such behavior only worsens congestion.

For those planning to travel between Nairobi and Nakuru, KeNHA advised using alternative routes such as Gilgil–Olkalou–Dundori–Lanet or Flyover–Njambini–Olkalou–Dundori–Lanet.
