Newly elected AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani has pledged to revive the club’s winning tradition and end the long wait for a league title.
Ambani, a former striker for the team, said his goal is to bring back the glory days that fans have been yearning for since the club last lifted the league trophy in 1998.
“I was part of the last squad to win the league. I understand the pain our fans have endured over the years. My biggest dream is to guide AFC Leopards back to the top,” Ambani said shortly after being declared winner.
Ambani clinched the chairman’s seat after securing 1,101 votes in the club’s elections held on Sunday at Kasarani Stadium. His only rival, Enos Mutoka, managed 682 votes in the peaceful poll.
Despite the win, Ambani said there is no time to celebrate, noting that preparations for the next season must begin immediately.
“There’s a lot to be done, and work starts now. The just-concluded season is behind us and it’s time to focus on the future. We need to assess the squad, identify who stays, who leaves, and which departments need strengthening,” he said.
The new chairman inherits a team that finished sixth in the 2024/25 FKF Premier League season with 51 points from 34 matches, after being in title contention earlier in the campaign. The club is expected to be active in the transfer window as they look to build a stronger squad.
Elsewhere in the elections, Isaac Mulindi emerged victorious in the race for secretary general, beating Robert Situma who came second. Mulindi garnered 656 votes, Situma received 534, while Irene Sitawa finished third with 429 votes in a tight race.
Newton Lime was elected the club’s new treasurer, replacing outgoing official Oliver Napali.
