NFL draft hopeful Zachariah Branch was arrested early Sunday morning in Athens, Georgia, according to local authorities, adding an unexpected off-field storyline to one of the most closely watched wide receiver prospects in this year’s class.

Branch, a former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver and projected Day 2 selection, faces two misdemeanor charges related to obstruction. Police allege he blocked a public sidewalk and failed to comply with instructions from law enforcement officers at the scene.

Booking records show Branch was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. and released just over two hours later after posting bond. No injuries were reported, and officials have not disclosed further details surrounding what led to the police interaction.

A police report cited by NFL Network claims an officer issued repeated verbal commands for Branch to clear the area, which were allegedly ignored. Authorities have not released bodycam footage or additional context.

The incident occurred just hours after Branch attended Georgia’s spring football game on Saturday. His younger brother, Zion Branch, is currently a defensive back for the Bulldogs program.

Despite the arrest, Branch remains a highly regarded NFL Draft prospect. After transferring from USC to Georgia, he delivered a breakout 2025 season, setting a program record with 81 receptions for 811 yards and six touchdowns.

His speed has also drawn significant attention from scouts. At the NFL Combine, Branch recorded a 4.35-second 40-yard dash, ranking among the fastest times for wide receivers in this year’s draft class.

Widely projected as a second-round pick, Branch continues to be viewed as one of the more dynamic offensive talents available. However, with the NFL Draft approaching, teams are expected to review the incident as part of their final evaluations.
