NARC party leader Charity Ngilu’s supporters on Monday heckled incumbent Kitui Governor Julius Malombe when he attempted to address them at a NASA rally.
The crowd for 20 minutes would not stop chanting pro-Ngilu slogans as she sat calmly, beside NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga, laughing and smiling as her supporters humiliated Malombe at the dais.
Malombe ended up returning to his seat beside Kalonzo, visibly furious at being shouted down in his own county.
Kalonzo Musyoka, Wiper Party leader announced that he will not be supporting Ngilu for election despite her being active in NASA politics, including campaigning for them.
Ngilu, the former cabinet secretary for lands is campaigning to unseat Malombe in the upcoming August 8 General Election.
“She should have dissolved her NARC party if she was keen on Ukambani political unity. I only have to campaign for Wiper party nominees for various seats including the Kitui gubernatorial seat despite Malombe and herself working together under the NASA umbrella.”
According to the Daily Nation, Kalonzo went ahead to disown Ngilu, telling her his party needed numbers in national and county assemblies, and therefore, she should appreciate that sentiment considering she is a competition to his Wiper Party.
“Yes, NASA allied parties are competing with each other in the elections, but the strength of the party will be measure on votes garnered. NASA is going to win this election but I don’t want to be a deputy president without governor and foot soldiers in all assemblies to implement our agenda,” concluded Kalonzo.
Despite campaigning for Kalonzo and his NASA co-leaders, Ngilu pledged to keep working with NASA despite not attending subsequent rallies after the humiliating drama Malombe suffered.
“I have no problem with Kalonzo because his stand is not the gospel truth. He’s trying to market a very unpopular governor and he will be embarrassed at the ballot,” said Ngilu.
