The Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Roads and Transport, appointed Dr Nashon Kondiwa as the new Director General for a three-year term effective February 17, 2026.

In a statement signed by Board Chairman Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani, the Authority said Dr Kondiwa brings over 22 years of experience in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), innovation, public sector leadership, transportation systems and digital transformation within the road transport sector.

Before his elevation to the top post, Dr Kondiwa served as Deputy Director – ICT at NTSA, where he led the digitisation of key services and strengthened the Authority’s technology infrastructure.

His tenure saw the expansion of online platforms and automation of core processes aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and service delivery.

The Board said his expertise in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), urban mobility and ICT strategy positions him to steer the Authority into a new phase of data-driven regulation and enhanced road safety management.

“Dr Kondiwa’s proven ICT leadership, strategic vision in transportation and deep institutional knowledge will steer NTSA to even greater heights,” the statement read.

“We are confident that his leadership will deliver measurable improvements in road transport management, road safety outcomes and operational excellence.”

His appointment comes at a time when NTSA is under pressure to strengthen enforcement, streamline licensing processes and leverage technology to curb road carnage across the country.

Dr Kondiwa is expected to prioritise system integration, stakeholder collaboration and innovation as part of efforts to modernise transport management and enhance safety on Kenyan roads.

His appointment comes at a time when the agency is facing scrutiny over its operations and claims of sluggishness at work.
