The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Thursday asked a court to allow them hold three suspects in the alleged abduction saga involving Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.

The detectives asked a Milimani court to allow them hold Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairman Peter Kiratu Mbaru, David Macharia Gatana and Cirus Kieru Muhia.

In a miscellaneous application filed in court, the DCI claims that MP Koimburi was kidnapped from Full Gospel Ebenezer Church in Mugutha by the three respondents, who are reportedly his close associates.

The DCI argues that investigations are still ongoing and releasing the suspects at this stage could jeopardize the process, especially since the MP is yet to record his official statement.

According to court papers, the allegations have since created panic, fear, and sharp political divisions across the country and in the concerned constituency, which is cosmopolitan in nature.
“This presents a threat to national peace and stability,” the police said.

They claimed Koimburi remains critically ill, according to close friends and family.

The outcome of his medical condition is uncertain, as doctors have yet to release their findings.

The court was also told that the matter is of grave national security concern.

Besides being a sitting Member of Parliament, Koimburi is affiliated with the newly formed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which is in opposition to the current government.

This political dynamic has reportedly fueled intense public reaction that could escalate into serious unrest.

The DCI emphasized that kidnapping is a serious offense under the Penal Code.

Preliminary investigations also suggest that after reportedly evading arrest on May 23, 2025, the MP later returned safely to his home in Mugutha.

This was allegedly confirmed by the first respondent, who visited him and was informed that the MP intended to seek legal redress to recover his impounded vehicle from the police.

The court will hear and determine on the application on Friday May 30.

A Member of Kiambu County Assembly was Thursday grilled in the probe into claims of abduction on Koimburi.

The female MCA was picked from outside Monalisa Hotel in Thika and bundled her into a car and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for grilling.

She was later locked up at the Capitol Hill police cells pending possible court appearances.

It is claimed she is among the people the MP met on the day he is said to have been abducted from outside a church in Mugutha area on Sunday.

Detectives visited a hotel in Gatundu where the MP spent the night when he claimed he had been abducted.

They interrogated the managers as part of the probe and demanded security footage on the presence of the MP at the facility.

The management claimed the security cameras were not working on Sunday when the MP checked in.
