Police in Busia have seized over 8,500 litres of suspected ethanol following a night operation in the Marach area.
According to a statement from the National Police Service, officers from Busia Police Station received a tip-off on Sunday night about a lorry suspected of transporting illegal substances. Acting on the information, officers were dispatched to intercept the vehicle.
The lorry was found carrying 35 plastic drums, each with a capacity of 250 litres, containing a liquid suspected to be ethanol. In total, police impounded 8,750 litres of the substance.
“The driver and one other occupant of the vehicle were placed in custody pending arraignment,” the statement said. The lorry was towed to Busia Police Station for further investigation.
The National Police Service praised members of the public for the information that helped in the operation, reiterating its commitment to tackling the illegal trade and transport of hazardous substances.
