Law enforcement officers from Baharini Police Station in Turbo Sub-County have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized cannabis sativa worth about Sh9.5 million.

According to police, the operation followed a tip-off from vigilant residents who reported a suspicious lorry believed to be ferrying illegal drugs.

Officers swiftly mounted a coordinated operation and intercepted the Isuzu FRR vehicle at Chemalal along the busy Eldoret-Malaba highway.

“Upon inspection of the vehicle, the officers unearthed six sacks packed with cannabis sativa, cunningly concealed within cartons of body oils and perfumes, weighing 190 kilograms,” police said in a statement.

The driver, 45-year-old Ali Adema Misonga, who claimed he had collected the cargo in Malaba and was transporting it to Mombasa, was arrested on the spot. He, together with the vehicle and the narcotics, was escorted to Baharini Police Station.

“The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the lorry and recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits,” police said.
