President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the National transport and safety authority (NTSA) to withdraw its officers from the highways.

He has ordered that the traffic police take over the duties of managing the Kenyan roads

The institution has been accused of being responsible for the increase in the number of accidents that has seen close to 300 people dead and several injured.

Muhoroni MP Onyango K Oyoo had also planned to table a bill in parliament to disband the NTSA. He claimed that they had failed to tame the road carnage menace that is their core mandate. He said that the institution had become amorphous/courtesy and moribund.
