    Siblings

Quentin has one maternal half-brother, Tyler Myers, who is a professional ice hockey player for the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL.

They share the same mother, Tonja Stelly, but have different fathers, leading them to grow up in separate households.

Despite this, they are notable for being the first brothers to compete in the NBA and NHL.

    College career

Grimes began his college basketball journey at the University of Kansas, where he played for one season during the 2018-2019 academic year.

In his freshman year, he averaged 8.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

While he displayed flashes of his potential, he struggled with consistency, which is common for many freshmen adjusting to the collegiate level.

Despite these challenges, Grimes was part of a competitive Jayhawks team that reached the NCAA Tournament.

After his freshman year, Grimes transferred to the University of Houston, where he found a better fit and flourished on the court.

During his sophomore year, he averaged 12.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

His shooting improved significantly, highlighting his ability to score from beyond the arc.

In his junior year, Grimes had a breakout season, averaging 17.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

He became a key player for the Cougars, leading them to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament.

His standout performance throughout the season earned him All-American honors and solidified his status as a promising NBA prospect.

    NBA career

Grimes was selected 25th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers but was traded to the New York Knicks on draft night.

During his rookie season with the Knicks, he played a significant role off the bench, averaging about 6.0 points per game while showcasing his defensive prowess and three-point shooting ability.

Over the next two seasons, Grimes continued to develop his game, becoming known for his defensive tenacity and ability to stretch the floor with his shooting capabilities.

A highlight of his time with the Knicks came in April 2023 when he scored a career-high 36 points against the Miami Heat, demonstrating his potential as a scorer.

In February 2024, Grimes was traded to the Detroit Pistons as part of a deal aimed at reshaping both teams’ rosters.

He continued to develop his skills with Detroit, contributing both offensively and defensively during his tenure there.

Most recently, in July 2024, Grimes was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

This move positioned him alongside star players like Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, where he is expected to bring his shooting ability and defensive skills to complement the team’s offensive firepower.

    Accolades

Grimes has received numerous accolades throughout his basketball career, both in college and the NBA.

In college, he was recognized as a 2021 All-American, earning Third Team honors from multiple organizations, including the Associated Press, NABC, and USBWA.

He was also named the AAC Player of the Year and the AAC Tournament MVP in 2021, leading the Houston Cougars to the Final Four.

Grimes was selected for the NABC All-District First Team and made the AAC All-Tournament Team.

In the NBA, he was named to the All-NBA Summer League First Team in 2022 after a strong performance.

Grimes’ career highlights include scoring a career-high 36 points in a game against the Indiana Pacers in April 2023.
