Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has received a new appointment from the African Union.

The NASA leader will now be High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa. Raila will now work to support and strengthen the efforts of the Commission’s relevant departments.

The high representative will work to support and strengthen efforts of the commission’s relevant departments and those of the planning and coordinating agency of the new partnership for Africa’s development. It’s in line with framework of the program for infrastructure development in Africa endorsed by the Assembly of the Union in January 2012,” explained Mahamat.

AU Chairperson Moussa Mahamat said that the appointment was made in order to expedite the integration of the continent through infrastructure in order to improve the economy.

“This decision is part of the African Union’s drive to expedite the integration of the continent through infrastructure, in order to promote economic growth and sustainable development,” Mahamat said in a statement

The former Prime Ministers new role will entail mobilizing political support from member states and the regional economic communities and facilitating greater ownership by all concerned stakeholders on the continent.
