Nairobi residents in several estates in Eastlands will soon be connected to the sewer line as the government embarks on ambitious project, Nairobi Water and Sewerage Program – Umoja Sewerage System.

The project that aims to enhance sanitation services and accommodate the city’s growing population, which exceeds seven million people during the day and about five million during the night.

During his site tour in Umoja, Embakasi West, where he launched the program, President William Ruto emphasized the critical need for this project, noting that the expansion is part of the intergovermental collaboration broader initiative to modernize the city’s sewer system.

The need for sewer line rehabilitation arose in response to overgrowing the city’s population, necessitating the improvement in infrastructure to keep pace with the dynamic growth.

The upgrade is designed to enhance the sewer system serving Umoja areas, Kayole, Saika, and Donholm, among other Eastland estates.

The city has been struggling with the poor drainage system due to growing population in general without any expansion.

Ruto was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson, and other elected Nairobi legislators
