Ryan Lindgren Siblings: All About Charlie and Andrew Lindgren

Ryan Lindgren is an American professional ice hockey defenseman known for his physical, shutdown style of play, reliability in his own zone, and willingness to block shots.

Born on February 11, 1998, in Burnsville (or Minneapolis area), Minnesota, he currently plays for the Seattle Kraken in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Lindgren has carved out a solid NHL career primarily as a defensive specialist and penalty killer, earning respect for his toughness and consistency over more than 450 games played.

Siblings

Ryan is the youngest of three brothers in a hockey-centric family from Minnesota.

His father, Bob Lindgren, was a goaltender at the University of Michigan.

Both older brothers also played as goalies: Charlie Lindgren, who has had a lengthy NHL career as a goaltender and currently plays for the Washington Capitals, and Andrew Lindgren, who played junior hockey and later became a firefighter.

Ryan, the only skater among the siblings, often credits the competitive environment at home with shaping his development as a player.

Career

Lindgren grew up playing hockey in Minnesota and progressed through the U.S. National Team Development Program.

He was selected by the Boston Bruins in the second round (49th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

After two seasons at the University of Minnesota, where he earned All-Big Ten honors, his rights were traded to the New York Rangers in the 2018 Rick Nash deal.

He made his NHL debut with the Rangers and spent several seasons as a key part of their blue line, often paired with top defensemen and contributing to deep playoff runs.

Known for his physical edge and defensive reliability, Lindgren later had stints with the Colorado Avalanche before signing with the Seattle Kraken.

Internationally, he helped the United States men’s national junior ice hockey team win gold at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Accolades

With the New York Rangers, Lindgren received the Players’ Player Award in 2021 and 2023, as well as the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award in 2023.

He was named to the Big Ten All-Rookie Team in 2017 and earned Big Ten Honorable Mention All-Star honors.

Lindgren has participated in NHL playoffs multiple times, including advancing deep with the Rangers, and has built a reputation as a dependable, hard-nosed defenseman respected across the league.
