Samsung Electronics has today announced that it has sold five million Galaxy S II smartphones worldwide. The Galaxy S II Smartphone which debuted in April 2011 runs on Google’s Android operating system. The phone is expected in Kenya anytime now with  Samsung Electronics East Africa Business Leader, Mr. Robert Ngeru saying that the country is one of the 120 countries targeted for the next phase of growth as the firm seeks to sell 10 million units globally.

The phone is expected to be launched in Kenya in the first few days of August 2011. If introduced in the market, the phone is sure going to change the game considering the amount of positive reviews it has attracted internationally. The phone is an ultra thin and lightweight, dual-core smartphone that  uses Android (Gingerbread) OS.

The phone gives users exclusive access to Samsung’s four new content and entertainment hubs, seamlessly integrated to provide instant access to music, games, e-reading and social networking services. Samsung currently supports local mobile application developers and innovators for both Bada and Android OS.

Ngeru say that Samsung intends to start bringing smart phones to the Kenyan market with preloaded mobile applications developed by local developers.

“The battle for the mobile consumer is no longer about who has the coolest device, but rather who has the most compelling ecosystem. The mobile market is rapidly moving from a device battle to an applications battle,” said Mr. Ngeru
