    SGR Workers In Naivasha Down Tools Over Poor Working Conditions

    300 workers working for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Naivasha have gone on strike citing poor working conditions.

    They have called upon the government and the ministry of labor to come to their rescue as pleas to the the Chinese contractor have fallen on deaf ears. The employees have said that the death of two of their colleagues two weeks ago illustrated the unsafe conditions which they were forced to work in.

    The workers spoke through their representatives only identified as Wakaba who said that they were demanding for buses to be bought to ferry them to their stations.The claimed that the open tracks which the used for transport exposed them to various chest complications.

    The Naivasha sub county commissioner confirmed the strike but said that talks were on going between the employees and different stakeholders. He also agreed on the pleas by the workers to be ferried in buses he said that Naivasha had a lot of dusts.
