Simmers Club was on Friday closed by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in collaboration with the City Hall Enforcement Unit over noise pollution.
The club has been around for more than two decades and is owned by the former Kimilili MP Suleiman Murunga.
“The police have stormed here, and instead of being an arbiter they have come with orders that have not even been served on me. This is impunity!” the owner exclaimed.
The club’s management was forced out of the facility and property thrown out on the streets.
It has been said that the new 680 Hotel management had threatened to shut down the club over prostitution, drug peddling, homosexuality and noise pollution.
The land the club sits on is apparently owned by the Nairobi County Government. The land was originally a public car park, Kenya Live News reports.

Mr Murunga argues that he is the sole owner of the piece of land since 2011, after Nilestar Holdings Limited’s lease expired.
