Olympic gymnastics icon Simone Biles has revealed that she recently experienced what she described as one of the most frightening moments of her life after suffering a mysterious medical emergency.
The 28-year-old athlete shared the update with fans through her Instagram Stories on Saturday, explaining that she had spent much of the past week recovering in bed.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”
The decorated gymnast did not disclose the nature of the medical issue but described it as one of the scariest experiences she has ever faced.
“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Johnathan was in Indy for practices,” she added, referring to her husband, Jonathan Owens, who was away attending preseason training with the Indianapolis Colts.
Biles said she had spent the week resting and recovering and hinted that she may share more details about the ordeal in the future.
The seven-time Olympic gold medalist also expressed gratitude to friends and loved ones who supported her during the difficult period.
She thanked members of her “close circle” who checked in on her, visited her, or sent flowers while she recovered. Biles later posted photos of several floral arrangements she had received before sharing an image of herself resting in bed.
“I’ll be here,” she wrote alongside the photo.
While Biles has chosen to keep details of the health scare private for now, she has occasionally offered fans glimpses into her personal life through social media.
Earlier this year, she made headlines after revealing the cost of preparing for a major event. In an April TikTok video, Biles said she spent approximately $23,000 on hair, makeup and styling services for a public appearance.
The gymnast questioned whether such costs were typical in the entertainment and sports industries, joking that fans might not see her attending many more events if those expenses were the norm.
Biles, who married Owens in 2023, was last publicly seen in April at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid.
