Former 800m world champion Eunice Sum of Kenya is expected to shine in the Lausanne Diamond League in Switzerland Thursday in the absence of South Africa’s Caster Semenya, who has opted for 1500m.

Sum, 30, has been trying to shake off a poor form and will be competing in her third race this season, after Doha and Paris meets.

She finished fourth last week in Paris clocking 1:59.25, as Semenya, Olympic champion, emerged winner with 1:59.25 to move to fourth on the list of world all-time greats.

“I’m enjoying my new fitness and want to test how fast I can run in Switzerland.

“It was bad for me to miss the world championship last season due to illness, but I’m back now in good health and ready to challenge for the medals,” Sum said.

With Semanya choosing to do 1500m, Sum’s challenge in Switzerland is expected to come from Burundi’s Fancine Niyonsaba, Ajee Wilson of USA and England’s Laura Muir.
