A 24-year-old man was found dead after a night fire razed his house in Mutarakwa village, Kageraini sub-location in South Kinangop, Nyandarua County.

According to police the incident occurred in the early hours of April 10, 2026.

A relative of the deceased reported that he was awakened at around 2:45 a.m. by a loud bang. Upon stepping outside, he discovered his nephew’s house engulfed in flames.

Efforts by neighbors who responded to the alarm to contain the fire proved futile, as the blaze quickly consumed the structure and property of unknown value.

The following morning at around 8:00 a.m., residents returned to the scene and discovered the charred remains of the house owner, identified as Erick Mboko Ndung’u, a casual laborer, inside the burnt house.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by a jiko (charcoal stove), which was found next to the body.

Police processed the scene and moved the remains to Engineer County Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Authorities have launched further investigations into the incident.

And a fishing trip turned tragic after a 50-year-old man drowned when a boat capsized in the Indian Ocean off the Maunguja area of Mwakirunge, Kisauni Sub-County in Mombasa County.

According to the police, the incident was reported on April 10, 2026, at around 9:00 a.m.

The victim, identified as Tsuma Ngala, had gone fishing overnight with a colleague when their boat overturned at about 5:00 a.m.

Police said the survivor managed to swim back to shore, but Ngala was unable to make it out of the water and is believed to have drowned.

Officers who rushed to the scene were unable to immediately locate or retrieve the body. Search and recovery operations are currently underway.

Authorities have urged fishermen to exercise caution while at sea, especially during overnight expeditions.

And police in Mandera North Sub-County arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 38-year-old victim.

According to police the suspect, identified as Zachariah Mohammed Ahmed, was apprehended on the morning of April 10, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. in Bulla Dana area within Rhamu after officers tracked him to his hideout.

The arrest follows an earlier incident in which Noor Dahir Ahmed was stabbed on the left side of his ribs.

He was rushed to Mandera Referral Hospital but succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment.

Police say the suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face murder charges.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
