An anti-narcotics operation in Kilifi County has led to the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers and the recovery of bhang valued at approximately Sh4.2 million, in a crackdown targeting illicit drug networks in the coastal region.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) based in Kilifi carried out an intelligence-led operation that resulted in a raid on a house in Kisumu Ndogo area of Kilifi town.
During the operation, officers arrested two suspects identified as Eisha Mzungu Kalama and Jamal Chilumo Chiraga.
“During the operation, detectives conducted a swift search of the premises, uncovering two and a half sacks of cannabis sativa wrapped in brown khaki paper, weighing 142 kilograms, ready for distribution,” the DCI said.
The seized drugs are believed to have been prepared for distribution within and beyond Kilifi, as authorities probe a suspected trafficking network linked to the consignment.
The suspects were escorted to Kilifi Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of arraignment, while the recovered narcotics were secured as exhibits.
The DCI said investigations are ongoing to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates operating in the coastal region as part of broader efforts to curb the spread of narcotics and related criminal activity.
