Two police officers were arrested following a shooting incident at a nightclub in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
This was after one of them allegedly fired a shot during a confrontation with staff at the club on Friday night.

According to police, the incident occurred at Baniyas Night Club.

The club manager told police that two men entered the entertainment joint at around 12:30 pm, ordered food and alcoholic drinks and remained there until about 9 pm when an altercation broke out between them and a waiter.

Police said the two allegedly became violent and one of them drew a pistol and fired a round of ammunition inside the establishment.

Bouncers at the nightclub reportedly moved swiftly and managed to disarm the suspect before alerting police.

Police officers responded to the scene and arrested the two men.

A Ceska pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition was recovered from the nightclub staff, while one spent cartridge was also collected from the scene.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of Sh673,000 in cash, five Euros, 15 US dollars and 10 Polish zloty.

Police said the suspects sustained minor facial injuries after they were assaulted by members of the public during the incident.

Upon interrogation, the two were identified as a Chief Inspector who is the OCS of Villa Police Station in Kibra Sub-County, Nairobi, and a Police Constable attached to Kapsaos Police Post.

The two officers were detained at Eldoret Police Station pending further investigations and disciplinary action by the Kenya Police Service.

Such incidents have been common where police are involved in chaos in joints amid efforts to address the menace internally.

Meanwhile, police in Nyeri South Sub-County are investigating a tragic accident in which a 62-year-old wood cutter died after being struck by a falling bluegum log while working.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon at around 3 pm in Munyange West Location.

The victim had been cutting bluegum trees when the accident happened.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased, identified as Naftali Maina Nderitu, was cutting an elevated bluegum trunk into logs when it suddenly bounced back and struck him on the back before trapping him underneath.

A witness told investigators that attempts to rescue the victim were unsuccessful and he died on the spot due to the heavy impact and weight of the log.

The scene was processed by investigators and the body moved to Mwai Kibaki Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
