The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the party, accusing her of disloyalty and going against party values.

In a statement released on Monday, May 19, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said the decision followed a thorough review by the party’s Disciplinary Committee and was approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

“Senator Gloria Orwoba is no longer a member of the UDA Party. She has lost all privileges of membership and cannot represent or speak on behalf of the party in any way,” Omar announced.

He added that the party has written to the Speaker of the Senate to begin the process of removing Orwoba from her parliamentary position. UDA has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to take her place.

The party has also informed the Registrar of Political Parties and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of the expulsion.

“Based on our party list submitted before the 2022 General Election, Mrs. Consolata Wabwire has been nominated to fill the vacancy,” said Omar.

Senator Orwoba’s expulsion follows a series of actions that reportedly angered UDA leadership. On April 17, she showed up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to welcome back former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and later joined his homecoming celebration at Gusii Stadium on May 2.

The party viewed her public support for the former CS, a perceived government critic, as a betrayal of its principles.
