The Nairobi city council has closed Uhuru Park a week to the National Super Alliance (NASA) swearing in ceremony.

The closure comes at a time when the opposition has threatened to go ahead with the oath taking ceremony at the said venue.

Also holding a free medical camp on the same day as the ceremony is the Nairobi Business Community. The group took a tour of the park on Tuesday in readiness for the medical camp targeting street boys willing to get circumcised.

In a notice dated, January 23, the recreational park will remain closed to allow for phased improvement.

“Notice is hereby given to the General Public that Uhuru Park Grounds is scheduled to undergo phased improvement works in order to enhance recreational usefulness to its visitors. We apologise for any inconveniences caused,” the notice read.

On Tuesday, the Nation reported that the opposition had changed the venue of the oath taking ceremony.

”When we chose Uhuru Park, we knew the Jubilee leadership would thwart our mission by ensuring the venue is cordoned off by police. We have chosen a different location that will be known during or after the event,” a source intimated.
