University of Nairobi (UoN) will reopen on November 6 after its indefinite closure due to insecurity and student unrest in October.

The students protested against the arrest of former student leader, and now Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino.

Owino was arrested and charged with incitement to violence and subversion.

At least 27 students were injured during the demonstrations.

Reporting on Monday will be students in the colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Education and External Studies, Health Sciences and Postgraduate students.

Others are School of Open and Distance Learning and Module II students (Evening classes only), said Academic Registrar B.M Waweru.

The second group of students will resume classes on November 13; students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

These are those in the school of Business in year II, III and IV and those in the school of Law years II, III and IV.

Students in the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences in Years II, III, IV (KCSE 2012) and Veterinary Medicine Years II, III, IV (KCSE 2012) and year V, will be affected by the recall.

Mr Waweru noted that only those undertaking Education and External studies at the Kikuyu Campus will report back on the said date.

Lecturers did however go on strike starting Wednesday citing the government’s failure to implement their 2013/17 CBA.
