Janai Norman has announced her departure from Good Morning America after 15 years with ABC News, sharing an emotional message with fans about her sudden exit.

In a video posted to Instagram on Saturday, the longtime co-anchor reflected on her time at the network, expressing disappointment over how her tenure came to an end.

“I hope that we’d have more time,” Norman said, adding that it had been difficult to accept that her time on the show was cut short. “I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my co-workers and with viewers… and to create this community.”

The 36-year-old journalist, who most recently co-anchored weekend editions of Good Morning America, said she was particularly saddened that she did not get the chance to say a proper goodbye to colleagues and viewers.

“It really breaks my heart that I didn’t get to say goodbye,” she said. “I’m so sorry… it would’ve been fun.”

Despite the abrupt exit, Norman pointed to a positive outcome—spending more time with her family. She explained that after years of working weekends, she now looks forward to being more present for her three young children.

“I have worked weekends their whole lives, and now they get more of me. And that is worth everything,” she said.

In the caption accompanying her video, Norman thanked supporters for their messages, writing that she was “deeply grateful for the love” and hinting at future plans.

Reports of her departure first surfaced on April 2, indicating that her contract with ABC News would not be renewed. Sources suggested Norman had been aware of the decision weeks earlier and continued to work professionally on air until news of the change became public.

Norman began her career with ABC News in 2011 as an intern with NewsOne and rose through the ranks to become a familiar face on one of America’s most-watched morning shows.
