    Woman electrocuted while hanging clothes outside Kisumu home

    A 74-year-old woman was electrocuted in a tragic incident in Ragumo area, Kisumu County.

    Police said Risper Ochola was hanging wet clothes on a metallic line at her home when she was electrocuted.

    The metallic line had been tied to the roof of her house which was also connected to live cables, which are suspected to have been naked.

    This caused the electrocution. Police and Kenya Power and Lighting officials visited the scene and announced an investigation. The team said they wanted to establish if the house had been professionally connected to the power.

    Illegal power connections have been blamed for many such incidents in the country.

    The incidents are pending under investigation. The body was moved to the mortuary pending a probe and autopsy, police said.

    Officials say most such electrocution incidents happen in informal settlements and rural areas where there is illegal power connections. There is a campaign to discourage the illegal power connections.

    And police in Ibeno, Kisii County are investigating an incident where a shop was robbed of Sh520,000. The incident happened after suspected thieves gained entry into the shop through the roof on Sunday night. The said thieves also vandalized CCTV recorders and escaped with it. Police said they are investigating the incident.

    In Kiambere area, Nyamira County, a man collapsed and died on the roadside after complaining of chest pains.

    The cause of the death was not immediately known. police said.

    Meanwhile, 80 passengers were forced to spend their night in Kisumu after a Jambojet plane was damaged by a bird while landing at the local airport. The plane was landing on Sunday January 4 when it hit a bird and damaged its left wing. It was to return to Nairobi with the 80 passengers. Officials were forced to book the passengers in a hotel until Monday morning when they were picked up to Nairobi. No injuries were reported in the drama.
