A woman’s body was found in River Kuja, Migori County after suspected suicide.

The woman identified as Hilda Akinyi, 38 had earlier sent a message to her brother asking to pick her child from Nairobi.

She indicated she was in River Kuja in Awendo area before the body with no visible injuries, was found floating on the river on July 9.

She had traveled from Nairobi where she stayed to her Kasere village, where the incident happened.

She had also been missing for days and a report was made at the Kamagambo police station, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy. Police said there were six suicide incidents reported on Wednesday alone, indicating the veracity of the menace.

The bodies are lying in separate mortuaries pending autopsies.

For instance, police in Magombo, Nyamira County are investigating a suicide incident involving a nine-year-old boy.

His body was found hanging from the roof with a mosquito net tied around his neck.

The boy was a grade four pupil at the Kiongutwa Primary School.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known. The body is lying at a local mortuary pending autopsy.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

Meanwhile, police in Kimaeti, Bungoma County, are investigating an incident where a woman died in hospital after being assaulted by her father and mother-in-law.

Adenqueen Mulongo died at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital, where she had been admitted on July 8 after the assault at her home on July 6.

Police said they are looking for the couple to face murder charges.

The body was preserved at the local mortuary pending autopsy.
