At least 14 people were Saturday morning arrested along Peponi Road, Nairobi as police thwarted a bloody clash between two camps claiming ownership of Sh300 million land.

The land in dispute is being claimed by two parties after its lease expired. This has led to confrontation between the two parties with one side hiring goons to take possession by force.

The matter had been reported to Gigiri DCI who have been pursuing the probe before their Land Fraud counterparts at the headquarters took over.

The Land Fraud team summoned the parties to the Mazingira House on Monday November 10, 2025 for questioning on the property.

The parties were asked to provide renewal of the lease and title of the property.

“One party provided the documents but the other said they are being processed which raised concerns on our side of possible fraud,” said a police officer aware of the probe.

Police said they arrested 14 suspects who were armed with crude weapons outside the property as they prepared to launch an attack on those already inside.

Nairobi police boss George Seda said they are investigating the incident.

“The issue is being handled by experts and we don’t understand why they are still fighting for occupation. It is criminal and we will take action,” he said.

The issue is the latest where land whose leases have expired are being contested by parties.

In some incidents, the claims have turned bloody leaving many injured and property destroyed.

Police say there have been a rise in land fraud and disputes in the country.

This has prompted the Land Fraud team to heighten their investigations to address the same.

Meanwhile, in a move to strengthen its capacity in the fight against human trafficking, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations signed a memorandum of understanding with Human Trafficking Institute(HTI) on trafficking in persons, prevention and investigation enhancement.

The memorandum which was signed at the DCI headquarters, is meant to enhance the prevention, response and investigation of trafficking in persons cases in the country by capitalizing on areas of collaboration such as capacity building programs, information sharing, technical support among others.

While committing into the collaboration, the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin expressed much delight to the Human Trafficking Institute for the consideration, adding that the partnership has come in timely, when the region is witnessing a surge in cases of human trafficking.

Further, he expressed DCI’s commitment and readiness to work with the Institution to achieve mutual objectives.

On his part, the Vice-President of Programs at HTI, J. Tyler Dunman extended his gratitude to Amin while emphasizing HTI’s dedication to meet the obligations set out in the understanding.
