Kenya has strongly dismissed claims by Sudan that it is to blame for the prolonged conflict in the war-torn country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said the Kenyan government had noted “with concern” a diplomatic note circulated by Sudan’s army-led administration, which accused Kenya of fueling the two-year conflict.
“The Government of the Republic of Kenya has taken note, with concern, of the circular note by Sudan’s SAF administration addressed to all Diplomatic and Consular Missions in various capitals, shifting blame to Kenya for the tragic and unending conflict that has engulfed that country for two years,” the ministry said.
Kenya expressed disappointment that, despite the devastating human toll and massive destruction of infrastructure in Sudan, the country’s warring factions continue to advance their own interests without regard for the suffering of the population. The statement said the violence had led to thousands of deaths, mass displacement, and a worsening humanitarian crisis, with millions cut off from life-saving aid.
The Ministry reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to peace in Sudan, noting that it has hosted both sides of the conflict in Nairobi in an effort to find a lasting solution. Kenya also criticized recent talks aimed at forming a parallel government in Sudan, calling them unhelpful.
“As long as the conflict remains unresolved, it will continue to be a concern for the region and the international community. Kenya will not remain passive,” the statement concluded.
Kenya has been actively involved in regional peace efforts through the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and has consistently called for dialogue and humanitarian access in Sudan.
