Kenya will host the final of the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on August 30, 2025, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced.

The announcement followed consultations between CAF and the three co-hosting nations — Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The tournament, which runs from August 2 to 30, 2025, marks the return of CHAN to East Africa for the first time since Rwanda hosted it in 2016.

Tanzania will stage the opening match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on August 2, while Uganda will host the third-place playoff at Mandela Stadium in Kampala.

CAF also confirmed that Zanzibar will be among the official host venues, with matches set to take place at the Amaan Stadium, which recently hosted the final of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup in May.

Group stage matches will be spread across four cities. In Nairobi, Group A games will see hosts Kenya take on Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia. Group B fixtures will be played in Dar es Salaam, where Tanzania will face Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic. Kampala will host Group C, featuring Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria. Zanzibar will stage Group D matches involving Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria.

Speaking during the handover of the Raila Odinga Stadium ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations in late May, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya reassured the public of Kenya’s readiness to co-host the tournament.

“We had a meeting with CAF officials because it is standard procedure for CAF to conduct periodic inspections up until the final day in July. In our discussions, we affirmed Kenya’s full readiness to host CHAN,” Mvurya said.

He added that the government has invested heavily in stadium upgrades and logistics. “We have invested heavily in upgrading infrastructure, including Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums, and have already paid the hosting fee amounting to Sh1.6 billion,” he stated.
