James Tomkins Backs Oliver Glasner For Manchester United Job Amid Ruben Amorim Pressure

Former West Ham and Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins has thrown his support behind Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner as a potential candidate for the Manchester United job if current manager Ruben Amorim is dismissed.

United’s struggles continued on Wednesday night after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town. The Red Devils were forced into penalties after falling two goals behind in the first half due to errors by goalkeeper Andre Onana. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire brought United level, but Grimsby went on to win the shootout and secure a historic upset.

The defeat has piled further pressure on Amorim, who oversaw a 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season and is yet to win a match in the new campaign. Reports suggest that United’s management could soon review his position if results do not improve quickly.

Tomkins believes Glasner, who has impressed since taking charge of Palace, would be a strong option for the Old Trafford role.

Speaking to Boyle Sports, Tomkins said: *“If the Man Utd job comes up I think Oliver Glasner is definitely a name that will be mentioned, and I believe he was linked to Bayern before. It will be interesting to see how that unfolds, because he’s certainly going to be linked with the bigger teams.

“You’re not just talking about keeping all the players at Palace, you’re also talking about keeping the manager. It’s a difficult situation. However, he’s probably the most important of them all because of how he’s changed everything there and how well we produce results in the biggest games. So yes, he’s definitely going to be linked with one of the big clubs.”*

For now, Amorim remains in charge at United, but with pressure mounting, speculation around potential replacements continues to grow.
