There was drama at the Lodwar Airstrip, Turkana County, when a governor and a Member of Parliament fought in a waiting area.
The drama involved Turkana governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Loima MP Protus Akujah, police, and the airstrip officials, said of the November 9, 2025, incident.
Witnesses said Akujah was at the VIP lounge of the airport when the governor arrived at about 11 am.
They were both headed for Nairobi on board a Skyward flight. They are political enemies. According to the witnesses, when the governor walked to the VIP lounge area, the MP rose up and an exchange of words broke out.
This went physical as they both punched each other as security personnel present rushed to separate them.
The plane personnel also intervened and warned if they continued to fight and quarrel they would not fly with the two to Nairobi as planned. Witnesses said they calmed down but with tension and boarded the plane to Nairobi with their seats separated far apart.
Officials said there were two broken spectacles, sunglasses and serviettes soaked in blood at the VIP lounge following the scuffle.
Police said they were waiting for the two to return to Turkana for grilling and possible recommendation for charges of creating disturbance at the airstrip.
The two are also free to pursue assault charges, police said.
Meanwhile, the police in Kokuro, Turkana County’s Kanomeris village, a 20-year-old man died after being assaulted by his parents over claims of stealing a goat. The man identified as Ekidor Ngirega was assaulted by his father and uncle over claims he had stolen a neighbour’s goat.
The family later buried the body in a shallow grave. Police said they plan to exhume the body and prefer murder charges in the incident.
The suspects were yet to be arrested on Monday November 10, police said adding they were pursuing an order to enable the exhumation and other processes.
