More than 270,000 students who sat for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have qualified for direct entry into universities.

President William Ruto confirmed the figures after being briefed at the Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County, ahead of the official release of the results on Friday.

The students qualified after attaining a mean grade of C+ and above, which meets the minimum requirement for direct university admission in Kenya.

President Ruto also revealed that a total of 993,000 candidates sat for the 2025 KCSE examinations, with girls making up 50 per cent of the candidates.

“At Eldoret State Lodge, Uasin Gishu County, I was briefed on the release of the 2025 KCSE examinations, which will be announced today. We are impressed that out of the 993,000 candidates, half of whom were girls, 270,000 attained C+ and above, securing direct entry to university,” the President said.

More details are expected after the official release of the results.
