Career
Schmaltz played junior hockey with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he excelled and earned All-Rookie honors.
He followed his brother Jordan to the University of North Dakota, playing two seasons with the Fighting Hawks.
In his sophomore year, he helped lead North Dakota to the 2016 NCAA Division I national championship.
Drafted 20th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2014, Schmaltz made his NHL debut in 2016.
He showed promise with the Blackhawks, including strong chemistry on a line with Patrick Kane, before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes in 2018.
