Migori county’s first lady, Helen Obado for the first time since the “cruel murder” of Sharon Otieno made a public statement shortly after her husband, Okoth Obado publicly denied having anything to do with the latter’s death.

Ms Obado backed her husband’s statement and maintained that he (Obado) is innocent.

“I also want to urge the people of Migori County to stay calm and maintain peace because I know my husband is innocent and together in prayers, we shall succeed in this,” she said on social media.

She also sent her “heartfelt condolences” to Sharon’s family members who have since put on hold burial plans until investigations into her death are concluded.

The county boss while addressing reporters called upon politicians and the media to avoid medieval punishments and proclamations.

This was after Judge Luka Kimaru ordered that his personal assistant Michael Oyamo be held for another 14 days at Muthaiga Police Station to enable police complete investigations, which detectives say are complex.

“Due to the multifaceted and complex nature of the investigation that involves many suspects and many leads, it is only fair that the subject continue to be detained for a further period of 14 days. He shall be detained at the Muthaiga police station. During his detention, his rights and fundamental freedoms that are guaranteed by the Constitution shall be protected,” Judge Kimaru said.

Sharon was kidnapped in the company of Nation journalist Barrack Oduor who managed to jump out of a moving car leaving behind the seven month pregnant Rongo University student.

The governor, the Star reports, during his 8 hour grilling by the police admitted to fathering the deceased’s child and was ready to take care of the two.
