The son of NASA leader Raila Odinga Junior has differed with the stand by NASA to conditionally support for the proposed 8% Value added tax on petroleum products.

He took to twitter to say that he was unconvinced by the statement put out by NASA saying that it was immeasurable. He called upon his MP to reject the proposed amendments on the bill.

Unfortunately as a Kenyan citizen, I am unconvinced by the statement put out by NASA on the VAT on Fuel, non of the conditions they’ve put up are measurable and even if they were they are nowhere near closing the deficit on the debt. I call for my MP @okothkenneth to reject.

The NASA parliamentary group had met earlier today under the leadership of Raila Odinga  and resolved to conditionally support the amendments.

“If the government makes a genuine effort to implement those proposals, we will agree to sit down and negotiate the extension of VAT for another year if that will still be necessary.

“NASA believes that if these proposals are implemented, there will be no need for extension of VAT beyond one year. However, if nothing is done on these proposals, NASA will move a motion in the next budget to scrap VAT on fuel entirely like it did this time,” the statement said in part

Embakasi East Member of parliament was among some of the members of parliament that have vowed to reject the amendments despite the position given by their party.
