    Airtel Announces a Country Manager for Rwanda Operation

    After winning the Rwanda 2G and 3G GSM license, Bharti Airtel has today announced former Celtel Madagascar Sales Director, Marcellin Paluku as the Country Manger of the company in Rwanda.

    Mr. Paluku has over 15 years of experience at Coca-Cola and Celtel. He has also worked in eight markets across Africa. His immediate position before this position was the Commercial Director at Airtel DRC.

    Speaking about the new appointment, Mr. Jayant Khosla, CEO Anglophone Africa, Bharti Airtel, said:

     

    “Rwanda is a market with great growth potential. As with all our operations, the leadership team in Airtel Rwanda will be made up of passionate and experienced Rwandans who are committed to our goal of providing best-in-class mobile broadband services.”

    Airtel was recently awarded the license to operate 2G and 3G GSM mobile services in Rwanda, effectlively expanding Airtel’s footprint in Africa to 17 markets. Rwanda is one of the fastest growing markets in Africa with has a mobile penetration rate still standing at 38.4% in July 2011.

    Airtel has indicated that it plans to inject over USD 100 million in Rwanda over the next three years.

    Meanwhile, 21 Airtel clients have won one hundred thousand shillings each in the 90 day Cashmania promotion that was launched on the 26th of August 2011.

    The SMS based promotion requires participating Airtel customers to send an SMS to the number 888 and answer fun and easy questions that offers them points and qualifies them to enter into the daily draws in which they stand to win the daily Kshs100,000.00 cash prize. Each SMS in the promotion is charged at Kshs25.

    The 90 day promotion comes to a close in November 2011 with daily draws being carried out and participating customers stand a chance to win the Kshs 100,000. Winners will only be contacted from 0734111777.
