The chairman of the Law society of Kenya Allen Gichuhi has said that his comments on activist Okiya Omtatah rendering lawyers jobless were misunderstood. He said that the complaints on the activists were raised by the Nyeri LSK branch chair Wahome Gikonyo.
He said that the main concern that the lawyers have was that other parties using him as a proxy in matters that they should have filed and use of privileged documents.
Allen Gichuhi said that the LSK applauded Okiya Omtatah as he had done a lot to protect the rights of the common mwananchi but were worried about the matters that he instituted as constitutional matters were clogging the constitutional court that only had two judges.
He indicated that although the organisation respects every persons right to institute matters , they should be filed in the right courts to avoid clogging of cases so that matters could be dispensed expeditiously. He disputed claims that lawyers had become lazy saying that they were just trying to make the court processes faster.

While speaking to Kahawa Tungu exclusively the LSK president clarified that lawyers were not opposed to the digitization at the lands registry because they would lose their work doing conveyance cases but said that they were only pushing for the public participation and have proper guidelines to reduce delays.
“We are not opposed to digitization at the lands registry,we went to court to try and push for public participation and for proper guidelines to be st so as to reduce delays and the court agreed with us,” Gichuhi said
Media reports had indicated that the LSK chairman and other lawyers had said that activist Okiya Omtatah had taken up all matters because of his name making other lawyers to miss work as a result. Social media users had weighed in saying that lawyers had become whiners.
